For me this is a compilation album, which features re-recorded old songs. It sounds great (thanks to the mixing done by mr. Triani ) but lacks the spirit, mainly because we had done those songs before. Been there, done that, lost the spirit, that´s a fact. My original idea was to have a subtitle which would say “Early seeds 2000 – 2002”, but I didn´t have the courage to say it out loud. I´m a big time coward. And when it comes to the title, it was supposed to call into question what is big and what is small, but I guess it didn´t quite
achieve it´s purpose.
The cover work is again marvelous, thanks to Riku and Vaskitsa and my father, who has most probably taken the photo on the front cover.
BOOMHAUER/THE ROLLSTONS SPLIT cds Stupido (2003)

THE ROLLSTONS 7” Rhythm Barrel (2002)
A. Exploring the fingerboard / Flannel Blanket
B. Symptoms / Wintertime
These songs are from the same session as the songs on “Earth against world”. They sound way better on vinyl than on cdr. Thank you Mr. Rhythm barrel for letting us do everything our own way. I love the cover no matter what other people say. There´s a great feeling of texture there. All the credit for the cover goes to Kaari and Riku.

6. Old age comes with a smile
7. Summerbee

9. The Rollstons take a train
10. Slav(e)song
11. Some find it odd
12. Who are those guys?
13. Dead fly
If you asked my opinion, I would name “Earth against world”the most coherent piece of music we have done so far. You can call it an album with a capital A. The songs come in the right order, it ain´t too long and we had learnt to play our instruments passably.
Tuissi and Kalle also joined the band before we started to record this one and they brought a hint of musicianship to our sound. This one was also recorded in Tourula´s living room studio, as was “Doing time”. This time we had a chance to use more advanced recording technique, thanks to Kaari´s brother Niko who lent us his digital 16-track. More sound effects were used and more time was spent on mixing. Our first fan Jussi a.k.a. Vaskitsa does a cameo on the album and at the same time became our new flatmate in Tourula. By doing so he gave our commune more lifetime. One more year of football, solidarity and getting drunk.
In the summer of 2002 Brian Eno was my hero and you can hear that on “Who are those guys?”. If you have seen the movie “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford, you might have heard the title of that song before. “The Real estate of the world”, “The Rollstons take a train” and “Who are those guys?” are the songs that give me the most kicks. And the title of the album? Well, I was reading Heidegger for an exam during that summer, didn´t understand a word, but at least I was able to find a good title for an album.

9. Still life with onions and garlic
10. Depression grows
11. Heartburn
12. 50 km is occasionally shorter than 5 km
13. Eurovision

15. You don´t rock me
16. Few and far between
17. Two microphones and the whole damn kitchen
This is our first proper cdr-album. It was recorded during the summer of 2001 on a fourtrack which I had been bought earlier in the spring. Is this cdr any good? How does it differ from the christmas-ep? I think that Doing Time has a unique atmosphere compared to anything else we have done before and after it. It is a very spontaneous piece of music and it captures our enthusiasm very well. We really loved to bang our instruments back then. I think that we have lost some of that innocence on our way to the record industry. Some might say that it´s called growing up.I´ll say I´m just getting nostalgic.
Some of the “songs” were written and recorded during the same day, so we didn´t really arrange those songs. We just played things that sounded interesting enough. That way the album got quite experimental by nature. You can hear lots of household appliances here and there.
My personal favourites on that album are “Eurovision”, “Summer is over” and “Lions”. “50 km is occasionally shorter than 5 km” was inspired by the doping scandal in the world championships of cross-country skiing in Lahti. You might wonder where the title of the album came from? Well, none of us have spent time in jail. To me it´s a metaphor for recovering from a serious case of depression.
THE CHRISTMAS – EP cdr (2000)
1. Reunion
2. Weekdays are schooldays, weekends are mine
3. Do not forget the fire ( kik start 2 )
4. Translate the change
5. Tehtaat
During the fall of 2000 we decided that it was time to record something for Our friends. Panu, Huli and I had been banging our instruments in this basement in Jyväskylä for about a year without any clear goal or thought about what we were doing. We weren´t a band then ( I´m not sure if we are one yet? ). Our aim was not to become something by rehearsing. We were just spending time together. But then in the summer of ´00 we realized that we had some chords, melodies and beats that we used to play almost every time we got together in that basement. Songs? Hell yes, we thought and started to record them with the help of a minidisc and a computer. It was to become our first ever cdr and was given to our friends as a christmas present. Early versions of “Weekdays are schooldays, weekends are mine” and “Translate the change” can be found on that cdr. It also contains “Reunion” which is one my favourite Rollstons songs ever. Our band was named after the old italian organ called Rollston, which I got from my girlfriend. The last song on that cdr is played on that organ.
Do you wanna know what we were called before we became The Rollstons? Yes? Are you sure? Ok, prepare yourself. Our name was ………Randy Völler after the great curly haired German footballer who nowadays coaches the national team of Germany (He was fired after the Euro 2004). His first name is actually Rudi but we thought that Randy sounds better.
